203 Ways to Save Money:  Household, Income, Budgeting (15)

To make your personal budget work for you, you need to increase your monthly cash flow.

Here’s How:

• Method #1: Increase your income
• Method #2: Reduce your expenses

How can I increase my income? – Consider These:

1. Work overtime if you get a chance.
2. Look for and get a second job.
3. Look for ways to start a home-based business.
4. What do you know how to do well – Teach it to somebody else and get paid for that.
5. Learn a new trade or go back to school to expand your skills.
6. Write down your ideas – Maybe one of them is good enough to patent and sell.
7. If you already have a side business – Add services that your customers ask for and you haven’t offered them – Yet! Find out what they need that you aren’t offering and they would pay for or are paying for right now then scoop up that little bit of extra business!
8. Sign up to be a product tester! Look online for ideas – Free stuff and all you have to do is write a review or leave a comment!
9. Look for and Try to find a higher paying job (check out MischelleWatkins.com recommended list of ideas and books).

How can I cut my expenses?

Reducing your expenses is an efficient and immediate way to increase your cash flow, which in turn, adds to your income.
Begin by looking at every item that you have listed as a monthly budget debt.

Ask yourself, “What can we cut from that list?”

Suggestions:

1. To reduce your housing costs, consider:

• moving to a smaller house or apartment
• taking in a border or roommate

2. Look at all of your not-essential expenditures, such as cigarettes and alcohol. I hate the smell of smoke so I don’t, but do understand it’s addictive and ‘soothing’ qualities for smokers.  I make a lousy drinker because I LOVE everybody!  By quitting smoking or reducing the amount you drink, you can free up extra monthly cash.

3. To eliminate credit card debt; begin by paying off your highest interest credit card balances first.
4. Buy a coffee maker and a travel mug to make your own coffee – instead of buying coffee.

Key to your success is to look at every single expense, regardless of how much of a savings it equals, and cut that expense, then go back and cut some more, go back a third time and cut even more.

Once you have done the cutting, it’s time to, “Pay Yourself First”.

Increasing your income and lowering your expenses results in awareness of what you ARE spending and better management of your money. Budgeting is proven to work. The work, is in your hands – You have to do the hard part of cutting.

If your money problems are already overwhelming and budgeting is not a debt management solution for you, then take this important step and ask a professional for help.

Sometimes saving money requires that you spend something to invest in energy saving devices – water saving devices, appliances, or plumbing fixtures, for example, or a quality purchase instead of a trendy one – meals and clothes, for example. It’s these savvy choices that help you save money, though.

Your reward is not only saving money, but a healthier lifestyle and a sense of accomplishment for doing those things for you and your family that help you get ahead.
